MEMORIES OF GALERO by Moly Stanley
GALERO and GARBO, two of the most influential sires in Spanish Arabian bloodlines, were born in the same year. The Spanish say that horse production is like wine making there are vintage years, and 1965 was one of those vintage years.
GALERO knew he was absolutely beautiful, and he would stand completely still when he was taken from his stall at the Spanish Military State Stud, though he would follow you with his big dark eyes as you walked around to admire him.
GALERO was very kind in temperament, and it was clear that he was always aware of his handler and his audience, and always did his best to please. When turned loose, he was animated, with lovely movement at the trot.
In 1982, GALERO was stolen in the night from the well-maintained farm of a breeder of Spanish Arabians, where he was on loan from the State Stud. It was undoubtedly easy to lead him away, as he was so kind of nature. GALERO was never recovered.
GALERO left behind important progeny, both sons and daughters, and a number of those were exported from Spain to various countries around the world.
Perhaps the best known to breeders in the USA are the GALERO sons:
