BOOKS BY SANDY ROLLAND

"Preserving our Arabian Horse Heritage through Books"

This book  is the revised updated 2nd  edition  2001. It is a pictorial reference work of the get of *Raffles, one of the most influential sires of the Arabian Horse breed. His blood is legendary and still strong in pedigrees today.

*Raffles was sired by Skowronek (Ibrahim x Jaskolka) and out of the lovely *Rifala 815 (Skiwronek x Rissla) the result of a father-daughter mating. He was bred by the late Lady Wentworth at her Crabbet Park Stud in England and was foaled there in 1926.

I have used several different photos in this edition, some of them are the same because they are the only ones I have.

The progeny numbers have been updated because many of these horses were still living when the first edition was published.

The amount of *Mirage blood in today's horses is remarkable; he only sired 26 foals, 13 colts and 13 fillies. Two sons sired no purebred foals, Two full sisters out of the mare *Kareyma were killed by lightening and a third daughter produced only one foal.

The amount of *Mirage blood so many years later through such a small number of get is incredible. In soft cover, many rare photos.

MERIT OF THE HORSE IN ISLAM

Horses, to the Arabs, were the most significant thing in life: they were the symbol of their erected fortresses, their everlasting treasures, their finest glory, and their secure way of defense. As such, the Arabs took great interest in horses, and excelled in their knowledge about these animals more than all other nations, to the extent that even the Arab children knew much about this beloved creature.

This hardcover two books in one volume work answers questions about the great benefit that good horses might provide, about their favourable colours (chestnut, black, red etc.), about horses with stockings, and without stockings, about the desirable, and undesirable markings of horses. About the merit of horses owned for the sake of jihad: what had been stated about wiping their forelocks; about their benefit; the (best) way of maintaining and taking care of them.

The book was translated by Dr. Munzer Absi and Asmahan Sailah, from Syria, with much information on the importance of the horse in Islamac life.

Hardcover, beautifully bound with gold leaf.  About 140 pages. No illustrations. Offered by the Arabian Horse Historians Association.
