It is important for you and for the horse to benefit from a
relationship
with each other. I am going to recommend some sources that
will satisfy your immediate needs and follow up later with some information
you will benefit from.
The first book I recommend you purchase is titled The Arabian a guide for
owners, by Sharon Byford. This lady is a personal friend of mine and has
done a great job in this book. She has a company called the Book Stall and
her web site url is www.horsebooks.com
Some other resources for you are the Arabian Horse America web site and
The
International Arabian Horse Association web site. Both can be reached from
the links page on this site at arablinks.com
There are some things you cannot learn from a web site or printed material
but only from people with experience. The Arabian Horse people have
recorded and documented a wealth of information over many years to enable
you to maximize your experience with the Arabian horse and to reduce your
risk and improve your rate of progress while enjoying the relationship. Most
of which is just now becoming available to the general public.
While you are waiting for your books I would suggest you begin to imprint
train your new foal by regularly working and handling the foal. Each horse
has a unique personality just like us humans that they inherit from their
ancestors. Aptitude and some Attitude traits and characteristics are
inherited, The environment that the horse and human are in can be controlled
and will shape behavior and performance.
So as your horse develops a
relationship with humans it is important that both learn to encourage each
other to have the courage and confidence to grow and learn together. The
horse will teach you about you and tell you when it is ready to move on to
the next lesson or experience in life.
I have produced a new video titled Preserving a Legend, In it I
present the view points and best practices from a core group of experts,
each with forty years or more experience breeding, raising , showing, and
working with
the Arabian horse. It is the result of twenty years of filming and
research
and is a must see for any horse owner regardless of breed preference.
You can also join a very good jam packed with experts Arabian horse list,
Arabhorse-L, the list owners e-mail is tessie@io.com
You can also learn from web casts from the W.K. Kellogg Arabian Horse
Library, currently there are two available for you to see . Follow the links
from here to access the web casts.
Khemosabi day at Cal Poly. http://www.ahlegacy.com/khemosabi_day_webcast.htm
and
Subject: Webcast of Bazy's Tankersleys talk.
The URL for DSL/Cable high bandwith is:
http://videosrv1.itacdc.csupomona.edu/arabianhigh.wmv
and the low bandwidth video for 56K modems is:
http://videosrv1.itacdc.csupomona.edu/arabianlow.wmv
I have used Windows Media Player to view the highband and lowbandwidth.
I don't know if RealPlayer will work as well. Both are free to download if
you need them.
