Arabian Horse History
![]()
The purebred Arabian horses' ancestors can be traced back to desert bred, from any country in the world that registers them. However, some countries have been breeding them for so long that they have developed their own foundation breeding programs from family lines that best met their requirements. It is sometimes useful to refer to them from their original country of origin in order to better understand the history and characteristics of the Arabian horse.
So, generally speaking, pure Spanish, Russian, Egyptian, Polish etc. means that every horse in that horses' pedigree traces to the foundation breeding stock of that country. It is not a statement as to the quality or usability of individual animals, but generally a breeding philosophy.
In keeping with the spirit of that concept, we have created five categories, each Hyperlink in each category has information relevant to the category.
Over the past 90 years, breeders have imported into North and South America many of the worlds best Purebred Arabian horses. Today, the Americas harbor the majority population of all the Arabian horses in the world. Some breeding programs have become so significant, that the exports from this region are influencing the breeding programs of most countries in the world. Hence, the category "The Americas."
