THE ARABIAN HORSE LEGACY FOUNDATION INC.

A 501 (c) 3 NON PROFIT

The Arabian Horse Legacy Foundation will support projects and programs that are directly beneficial and are in the best interest of the Arabian horse breed.  The foundation recognizes people are temporary caretakers of the Arabian horse breed and as individuals come and go, The Arabian Horse Legacy Foundation must endure as long as there are Arabian horses and people that love them.

It is the responsibility of this generation to preserve what we have and to establish the framework for the generations to come the opportunity of expanding this resource. We control what has and is going to happen to the Arabian horse in the future.

THE ARABIAN HORSE LEGACY FOUNDATION will be instrumental in accelerating the pace toward future growth of this breed and increasing its market share world wide. To accomplish this requires realistic plans that we can make work.

1. We will create a competitive advantage by collaborating with global resources to provide continuity, financial support and access to the world’s premier database on the Arabian horse breed.

2. We will communicate with the public through traveling Art, Sculpture and Film museum exhibits.  The Arabian Horse Legacy Foundation is evaluating a project to communicate with the public by putting three semi moving van type trailers on the road, one in Europe, Australia and North America. They would be equipped with slide outs, ramps and interactive displays promoting the Arabian Horse Breed, designed to educate, entertain and inform the general public attending fairs, agricultural events, livestock exhibitions, conventions etc.

3. We will focus on programs and projects that will extend the life cycle of Arabian horse ownership and decrease turnover.

In order for any organization to endure for the next 200 years they have to have a sustainable source of revenue. A reason for being that does not become obsolete and is supported by a global economy. The organization must be structured so generation after generation can add value and accelerate the pace, building on the efforts of those they replace.

The Arabian Horse Legacy Foundation is investigating the establishment of a dedicated capital growth fund account. These funds will be managed by professional finance experts and annually the board will decide on the best use of any earnings. The principle of this capital growth fund cannot be accessed for day to day operating expenses and the earnings from time to time can become part of the capital growth fund.

The initial campaign goal for the capital growth trust fund is $10,000,000.00 US dollars fully funded by the year 2020.

ARABIAN HORSE FOUNDATION RECEIVES RARE COLLECTION AS GIFT

Private Donation Chronicles 60 Years of the Arabian Horse in America

Meridian, IDAHO, Jan. 23, 2007 – A rare and very valuable collection of publications and films that chronicle the human and equine pioneers of Arabian horse history in America since the 1950s has been made to the Arabian Horse Legacy Foundation (TAHLF). The donation is a gift from Richard and Marianne Hatfield of Porterville, California, Arabian horse owners, and early and ongoing supporters of the breed.

“This may be the most comprehensive and only complete collection ever saved and then donated to an organization purely to benefit the Arabian horse breed,” said Ferman Ansel, TAHL chief executive officer.

The Hatfield donation contains more that 2,000 print items including some of the first and longest-running magazines dedicated to informing, educating and inspiring America’s Arabian horse lovers. The collection contains, for example, every issue of four major Arabian horse publications from 1948 to 2006, as well as editions of rare, now out-of-print publications. The donation also includes archival North American show records, some dating back to 1948. In addition, the value of this donation is magnified when seen as a resource to help name previously unidentified people and horses in pictures and video footage already part of the Arabian Horse Legacy (AHL) library.

The Hatfields are long-time California residents and have been instrumental in the growth and popularity of Arabians in the state for more than 50 years. Their proud and passionate ownership of Arabian horses fueled active participation in the Arabian Horse Association of Southern California and on the show circuit. Marianne Hatfield also rode in full Arabian costume in the annual New Year’s Day Tournament of Roses Parade for 34 consecutive years.

“The Hatfield’s are an important part of the Arabian horse history in California and beyond, and their gift is indicative of their passion for the breed and ensuring its longevity for generations to come,” says Ansel.

The donation will be managed by Arabian Horse Legacy, and represents a significant addition to an already extensive library of online information about the breed. In 2005, the Ansels formed The Arabian Horse Legacy Foundation to generate revenue from fees charged to access to the library’s information. Twenty percent of the revenues derived from the website will be contributed to the Foundation’s trust fund and used exclusively for the welfare and benefit of the Arabian horse breed.

“The Arabian horse is the oldest and most enduring breed in the history of civilization,” said Ansel, noting that there are an estimated 500,000 registered purebred Arabian horses worldwide. “The Hatfield’s generous donation captures an important part of that legacy here in America and its significance will be felt far beyond the borders of our great nation.”

Text Box: The significance of Richard and Marianne Hatfield’s generous donation to the Arabian Horse Legacy Foundation, Inc. can only be fully appreciated in the context of their 50+ year history with and active participation with the Arabian horse breed.

The Hatfield legacy began before Dick and Marianne were married, and in many ways, Marianne is the personification of the “horse crazy girl” who grew up to see her dream of owning a horse (and then some) becomes a reality. She has been involved with half-Arabians since 1947 and with purebred Arabian horses since 1951 when she and Dick began actively breeding and showing Arabians.

Over the years, it has not only been the Hatfield’s horses directly from which the Arabian industry benefited, but also their untiring efforts to make owning, exhibiting and enjoying Arabian horses better for everyone through their work with such organizations as their local Arabian Horse Association of Southern California (Dick served as president) and the international World Arabian Horse Organization (WAHO).

Their pride in the Arabian horse and active participation in events that promote the breed are perhaps best exemplified by the fact that from1966 to 2000, Marianne rode in the annual Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena, California on New Year’s Day.  Regaled in an elaborate native costume she made herself, Marianne has ridden five horses over the years including the bay mare BINT TREYF (Alyf x Treyf) in 1966, a proud product of the W.K. Kellogg Ranch (now Cal Poly Institute, Pomona). She has also ridden this mare’s daughter, grandson and great-grandson, Kaskayd++.  Other great Arabians owned and loved by the Hatfields include: KATREYNA (El Rahna x Bint Treyf); KAYSEYN+ (Neyseyn x Karnasa); DANCING WIND++(*Bask x Karnasa); KASKAYD++(Kayseyn X Katreyna); and ANTAREZ+(Hi and Gay x Teyna).

The Hatfield’s love of the Arabian horse was passed on to daughter Jane and son Philip who is a national Arabian judge. Their son John, preferring the golf course to the show ring, honored the Hatfield family love of Arabian horses with an Arabian-drawn carriage at his wedding.

The Hatfield’s continue to reside in Porterville, CA.
