*SS ORION
Just a couple of notes on "SS Orion's pedigree - his grandsire Zacateco is out of Baldosa (the dam of Garbo) who was a full sister to "Sabiduria, of the Steen importation. Baldosa and "Sabiduria are two of my all time favorites, chestnut mares of unusual beauty and conformation. On the top, Jacio (sire of *GG Samir) was out of Teorica, a mare of ethereal beauty and type, who was herself out of Galatife, who is a legend in Spain.
Orion's pedigree is a who's who of what is happening in Spain today. The dam of his sire (Zakateka) is by Marmol (sire of "Esperanto, the bay stallion here). Zacateca's dam Samarkanda was a gorgeous grey mare, Supreme Champion mare of Spain in 1987. Orion's gransire Zacateco is sire of the 1997 Supreme Reserve Champion Stallion AND Reserve Supreme Mare of Spain.
On the dam's side, Orion is out of Daikiri, whom we owned, but could not get out of Spain due to piro titres (a political disease, but not serious for the horses). Daikiri is by Spanish National Champion Get of Sire Mikado, and out of Spanish Supreme Champion Mare Polka.
You will note that both Orion's female lines go back to Princess Teresa's root female Nevisca, a mare of extreme quality, the foundation of her breeding program. Iin Orion these lines go back through different individuals, so the inbreeding coefficient is not high. His pedigree is pure Spanish gold, and he is producing as such.
