I thought it might be interesting for those of you who did not have the opportunity to meet some of the people who have made a difference in the Arabian Horse breed to put a face to the names you read or hear about. Here are a few candid photographs of some of the the people and horses who have left their legacy to the breed. I will continue to add photos to this section as time permits.
Joe
and Garth Buchanan with Nancy Ansel making notes. The Buchanan were the
owners of the *Raffles son Azraff and the breeders of Comar Bay Beau. I will always
remember Garth as the person who made a profound statement to me in which I better
understand ever day.
"The more I learn the less I know, but I never knew as much as when I was sixteen".
Gerald
Donoghue the owner of Tasliya, the 1958 U.S. Reserve National Champion halter mare and La
Bahia, the dam of Cass Ole starring in the movie "The Black Stallion". I video
taped both mares.
Jimmy and his wife Thelma where a wealth of information and great
story tellers about their experiences with the Arabian Horses
Jimmy Dean and Comar Raffdazon.

Left to right: Lucille Schuler, Nat Gorham, Gladys Brown Edward's, Ferman Ansel.
Lucille owned the Arabian Horse Word Magazine at the time in1980. Nat was the Publisher and later purchased the Magazine with Jan Shuler, Lucille's daughter. Gladys was their staff writer

I spent a memorable few days with Gladys at Cal Poly recording her memories and work of years past. Gladys wit and humor was something to behold. On several occasions in the following years I had lunch or dinner with Gladys and her friends. I recall one such time with Gladys, Dixie Ryan (Writer/Historian), Lucille Shuler and myself when those women started telling stories and we missed most of that evenings events.
Richard Pritzlaff etched his name in Arabian Horse history when he imported the first Nazeer son and daughter from Egypt, and then financially supported Carl Raswan enabling him to write the Raswan Index. I forged a close relationship with Richard and was invited back to his ranch several times to record his story and document his breeding philosophy.
Howard Marks who owned
Hallany Mistanny was a wealth of information.
Irene Bennett with her legendary mare
Cobah.

and the last owner of Ferseyn.
Bey Shah in 1980 was the
U.S. Reserve National Champion Halter Stallion.
The Arabian Sport Horse rules were approved at the 1998 IAHA
convention and Molly Stanley was the committee chairperson. Here she is presenting
me with her copy of the rules and reviewing the criteria used for course
design.
Molly measured Arabian horses for me in Spain in the early 1980's
and also the Stanley ranch National Champion
Jumper horses. Here we are reviewing the results of computer analization of these
statistics as they relate to Anatomical Proportional Ratios
and form to function.
Lazlo Monostory
moved the Hungarian government breeding stock under the cover of night to
prevent the invading German army from capturing them.
